I've been hearing about the Beauty Spot for a couple of years now, but haven't been there, and after reading a few of your other posts, I'm wondering about the best way to get there without owning a high-clearance vehicle. Are there trails from 107 (or elsewhere) that would let us hike a considerable distance to the Spot or is it solely accessible by truck? Is the road walkable/hikable?
I love reading your blog, by the way, and I really appreciate the consistency of your posts. It's great to be reminded how beautiful my homeplace is every day.
I often see cars at the Beauty Spot - and as of late the road has been in fairly good shape on the Erwin side. It's only 2 miles from Rock Creek Rd at Indian Grave Gap. You'll have to make the call, but I think many cars would make it up there fine right now. If you want, however, you could also park at Indian Grave Gap and get on the AT, and hike up to the Beauty Spot. Thanks for the encouragement! mark
