sorrow and delight

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
--Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) Lebanese American writer and philosopher

I'm really glad that I have lots and lots of photos of Duke to remind me of all the good times and adventures we had. And rather than bore you with a new photo of Duke each day for the next several months, I thought I'd share some of my favorites today. He was a beautiful, smart, fun dog, and a wonderful companion. My thanks to everyone who sent emails or left comments giving me words of encouragement and support. I'm also grateful to my friend Lee, who also put together a slideshow which you can see here.

  1. I am very saddened to read of your pal's passing. We had to put one of our boxers down two years ago this January due to a sudden onset of DCM. The hurt will not heal nor go away. You will simply adapt to it. You will learn that when you see things or things happen unexpectedly that remind you of the times you shared. You will be more thankful than sad. We will never ever forget our Brady and our heart goes out to you.

  2. So sorry about your loss. I had to put my best friend down last year after 14 years together. Second hardest thing I have had to do. Still can not think about it too much. I also have pictures and memories that will aways be with me. I think your slide show is a wonderful tribute to your friend.

  3. It saddened me to hear of your loss, Mark. I know Duke was very special to you and that you were very close to him.
I'll be praying for you and hope that you will continue to be encouraged over the days and weeks to come.
