Fawn Facts

We came across this wobbly-legged fawn in Carter County, TN. Its mom stood at a distance while we rode slowly by. The proportions of a fawn crack me up... they're all legs and ears! It's amazing that they take their first tentative steps within 20 minutes of birth. Eventually it will be able to run 40 mph and jump 9 foot fences! The spots, unfortunately, will be lost within 3 to 4 months. This baby deer will stay with its mother for a year or so before heading out on its own. Its life expectancy is about 15 years.
