Covering roadside slopes all over the Eastern U.S. is a plant called crown vetch. Its dense growth prevents weeds and stops ground erosion. A close look reveals that its flower is also quite beautiful. And yet while this all sounds good, the Tennessee Exotic Pest Plant Council
lists this plant as a "significant threat" because of its tendency to crowd out native plants.
