This shot reminds me of a painter's palette with the warm colors of fall and the cool colors of the Blue Ridge. It gives me hope that perhaps fall won't pass us by after all. But while the bushes and grasses atop Grandfather Mountain are showing signs of autumn, the trees are still at least a week or two behind. With this summer's extreme drought, we can't really expect anything like we had last fall. Still, Grandfather Mountain is a wonder -- and it's always near the top of my list for visitors to our region. If you go, take a jacket -- you'll be amazed at just how cold and windy it can be up there. Check weather conditions right now at the mile-high swinging bridge here.
