"The Snake"

The Shady Valley Country Store is home of the "Strip-ed Snake." The sign above explains it well: 1 Valley, 3 Mountains, 489 Curves. Regardless of the direction you travel, you're gonna experience some very curvy roads. Within the 12 miles radius of the store are 489 curves. This makes Shady Valley popular with motorcyclists. Today when we passed through there was a group from Rolling Thunder and also a group of Mazda Miata enthusiasts.

Located in the northeast corner of Tennessee, Shady Valley is one of the most picturesque valleys you'll find. (By the way...have you ever seen so many dandelions?!?) As long as you don't mind the curves, it's conveniently located in between the following cities: Elizabethton, Bristol, Mountain City (all TN), and Damascus, VA. (Here's a map). Even if you aren't into motorcycles or classic cars, the trip into Shady Valley is beautiful from every direction.

  1. I love Shady Valley - love it. One of my best friends hails from there. Thanks for the shout-out, keep up the good work, and we'll have you linked over at Hillbilly Savants in the very near future.

  2. My wife and I rode "The Snake" Friday October 10. Shady Valley is one of the most beautiful places in all of the Appalachain Mountains. The ride was great, plenty of scenery and great curves on SR 91 and US 421.

  3. Shady Valley is one of natures wonders. Beautiful, peaceful an absolute treasure. That is untill some people decided to turn it into a scumbag biker circus every weekend. What a shame.
