the hilltop hour

The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.
--Helen Keller (1880-1968)

Mist lays low in the valley in this shot taken well after sunset from Roan Mountain looking into Tennessee.

  1. Beautiful shot. Did you use a special white balance for this?

  2. Thanks, Dave! I used auto WB for this - and in Lightroom, I had to actually tone down the blue a bit. The exposure was 4 sec at f/22 (ISO 200). I did use a graduated filter (in Lr) to bring back the color of the sky which had been lost with the long exposure.
