In a Big Country

Cross country skiing is great if you live in a small country.
--Steven Wright (b.1955) comedian

When I was up on Roan a couple weeks ago after a recent snowfall, I was surprised to see cross country skiers heading up the gated road from Carver's Gap to the Old Cloudland Hotel site. Even more surprising were the ski tracks leading down the narrow, winding AT back to Carver's. Silly me with my hiking boots. :)

  1. When I saw the snow falling in Knoxville today, I wanted to head up to the Smokies. Maybe I'll get to soon! I enjoy your winter photos.
