Stained-glass windows of autumn and ourselves

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
--Elisabeth Kubler-Ross (1926-2004), Swiss-American psychiatrist & author

These reflections from Laurel Fork Creek, outside of Hampton, TN, remind me of stained-glass windows. If the water had been perfectly still, somehow I don't think it would have been as interesting or dramatic. It's the brokenness of the water that causes the light to sparkle and the colors to dance. The same, I believe, can be said for us -- that our true beauty is revealed through our brokenness.

  3. Then some of us must be absolutely gorgeous, so broken are we... Beyond fixing, or so it would seem. As long as we don't come across as cracked pots! Your photography is stunning.
